IPR 2009: Integration of IPR into Technical Education

The IPR cell of SDM College of Engineering & Technology conducted a day long workshop IPR 2009 on 16th May 2009. The objective of the event was to create among top decision makers awareness and appreciation of the importance of Intellectual property rights in the context of technical education and to enable the institutional heads and management to learn from the experience of experts and institutional members who have successfully implemented IPR in their institutions. Decisions makers such as Principals and management members from neighboring engineering colleges were invited for the event. In the inaugural function, Prof. Dr. H B Khincha, Vice Chancellor, VTU Belgaum in his keynote addressed the importance and challenge of implementing IPR practices in multi-campus institutions. The VC also stressed the role of industry and government agencies help in promoting IPR culture. Mr. Jeenendra Prasad Ariga, Secretary, SDME Society, Dharwad was the chief guest. Dr. M N S Rao, Principal,/Director welecome the gathering Mr. Ravindra Dastikop, program coordinator spoke about the objectives of the event. Dr. Prabhudda Gangluli, CEO, Vision-IPR, Mumbai explained a special model IPRInternalise developed and implemented in more than a dozen technical institutions in Maharashtra. The model is simple and cost effective. Dr. Prof. Abhyankar, Principal and Dr. Prof. Jabade of Vishwakarma institute of Technology shared their experiences in implementing the IPR model in their campus. In the panel discussion titled Innovation in Institutions: why and how- six IPR experts – Dr. B S Chandrashekhar, Shell Tech, Bangalore, Dr. D H Rao, Principal, GIT Belgaum, Dr. Arvind Vishwanathan, Xellectip, Bangalore, Prof. Jabade, VIT, Pune, Dr. Vijay Yaram, General Electric, Bangalore and Dr. Praveer Gupta, Innovation, Bangalore discussed various dimension of institutional innovation process, obstacles, and opportunities. Dr. M N S Rao. Principal/Director of the college gave the concluding remarks. Ravindra Dastikop, Program coordinator honored the resource persons.
